My first post!

Welcome to Teal & Tumbleweeds!  I picked my name because I have a long-running love affair with the color teal, and pretty much every shade of blue, and I frequently have good ol' Texas tumbleweeds blowing across and into my yard.  I realize that I'm a little behind since I'm just now starting a blog, but things tend to move a little slower here in the Texas panhandle, Amarillo, TX, to be precise.  Anyways, I hope you enjoy my first DIY post.  Stay tuned, there is more to come.
After scouring the local thrift/anique stores looking for a matching pair of nightstands that were at least 30" tall, I came across these at a furniture warehouse store.
Don't you love the backdrop of our very dirty garage!
The size was right, and I loved the iron work on the doors, so I went to work and came up with this finished product.
I painted the outside Mushroom by Martha Stewart, although I had it mixed in the Behr paint and primer, and the doors are painted Glass of Milk, also by MS.  I took the glass out of the cabinets and the cabinets off of the main part before painting.  I applied silver leaf, bought at Hobby Lobby, to the glass inserts with gelatin and painted over the silver leaf with black acrylic paint after letting the silver leaf set overnight.  I love the aged mirror look of the silver leaf.  I added glass knobs from Anthropologie, and I am thrilled with how they turned out.
